Other times there are better tools for the job. Smart Designer is like any other tool - sometimes it's the appropriate tool for the job. The key is to not accept the defaults on the installation of CorelDraw X6 destined for SD6 - make sure you modify the folder name for that installation.) Install CorelDraw to it's special folder and install Smart Designer, reboot, then install Embroidery Studio E3. (Of course to make this all work - you should rip out Embroidery Studio E3, CorelDraw X6 and Smart Designer X6. You should then have two CorelDraw items on your Start -> All Programs menu. Your mileage may vary given your two versions of ahead w/SD but you may be able to use the concept to get a working environment setup for yourself.ĬorelDraw will let you specify the install location when you run the installer - take a look at c:\program files (x86)\Corel - you probably have CorelDraw Graphics Suite X6 - so you'd basically just re-run your installer and tell it to install to CorelDraw X6 Smart Designer. It's a bit clugy (especially if you've started the artwork in X5 and have to remember to save back to X4 to open it in X4) but I do not have the EPS export issues anymore. If I want to use a feature from Smart Design I launch my X4 w/Smart Design, use whatever feature I need, save the file and then open it in X5 to create the cut lines and export. What finally created a functional work environment that gave me the option of using SD when it was a useful tool for the job, was to create a separate CorelDraw X4 installation with Smart Designer 4.
In those days if I exported an EPS (or PDF) from CorelDrawX4 that had Smart Designer 4 installed I had A LOT of issues coming into the Versaworks side (it would just freeze during the import, wouldn't see the cutlines, etc.). Prior to upgrading to Embroidery Studio E2 we had CorelDraw X4 and whatever prior version of Wilcom Embroidery Software as well as DecoStudio). I have Smart Designer 4, Embroidery Studio E2 which gives us CorelDraw X5.
